For the Love of the Shoes

You might not be aware of this, but 2012 marks the 30th anniversary of the Nike Air Force 1. Although, if you read this blog or are a sneakerhead, you probably are.

The Air Force 1, to me, is a classic silhouette, something an enthusiast can spot from across the room. It’s kind of like the Porsche 911, which you can look at from across a parking lot and immediately know what it is.

I wear a few pairs of my AF1s every week. I cannot go without them. They are a wardrobe staple for me and will be for years to come.

I tried to count all my pairs of AF1s, but opening all the boxes and going through them was taking too long, so I, instead, estimated that I have about 40 pairs—everything from simple, single-colored ones to “Grail” pairs like the two 25th anniversary ones made of anaconda leather and crocodile leather. And the huge majority have never been worn.

Air Force 1s even find their way into scenes where I would not expect them: Jackson Teller, a character on Sons of Anarchy, is almost always in his all-white pair.

Enjoy the video, and see how many pairs you think you would wear.
