This week’s featured pair of shoes will be the pair I just got in the mail last week. If you are not aware of Nike ID, you should be. It is awesome. You can pick a base pair of shoes and then custom pick the colors and sometimes the materials that your shoes will be built with. You build them online and, once you order, Nike will ship them to you within 35 days. My pair took only 19 days from click to arrival.
The pair I chose to work on was the Air Force 1s –definitely one of my favorite shoes and silhouettes. On Nov 1, 2011, Nike added the Air Force 1 to the Nike ID site for customization. They limited it to 750 pairs and made wool an available material. I had to build a pair. I came to work early and started building 3 different pairs – you had about 10 options you could choose – color of the tongue – the color of the outsole – the laces – the swoosh – and several other options. I added gray wool and built several pairs. After debating for an hour or so – I ordered my pair – and waited patiently. Less than 3 weeks later I had my shoes waiting for me. Let me know what you think of them, and what type you’d create?
On Dec 1, 2011 Nike added boot leather as a building material for the AF1s. I might not buy another pair, but you know I will be building several different pairs online.
